Session #1: Human Trafficking and the Hospitality Industry
When you hear the term “human trafficking,” what comes to mind? For many, they picture white vans, kidnapping, or smuggling. Most often, though, human trafficking in the United States does not occur in the ways it is portrayed in the media. It can take place in any business and is prevalent within the hospitality industry. Industry leaders can play an important role in preventing and addressing human trafficking.
In this session, participants will learn what sex and labor trafficking really look like in the United States. McKayla will share case examples from her firsthand experience working with survivors of human trafficking. Participants will gain an understanding of how human trafficking occurs within the hospitality industry and the work that Virginia is doing to combat this.
