Education Topic: The Virginia State and Local Government Conflict of Interests Act

Join us at the November meeting for an afternoon of ethics education. Questions to think about: Were your activities prohibited?  Did you have any conflicts of interest?  Are you sure? 

Have these questions answered and more. Learn the basics to help you be aware of potential conflicts before engaging in any prohibited conduct.

This session will provide a brief overview of the State and Local Conflict of Interests Act and how it applies to state officers and employees.  Make sure you bring your questions to take advantage of the “Question & Answer” session after the presentation.

Virginia Conflict of Interest and Ethics Advisory Council

Rebekah Stefanski is the attorney for the Virginia Conflict of Interest and Ethics Advisory Council. Her duties include advising the Council on legal issues, drafting formal opinions for Council review, and providing informal guidance to filers from across Virginia. She graduated from the University of Richmond’s School of Law and completed her undergraduate studies at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas. 

After the session, attendees will:

• Know the basics of prohibited conduct and prohibited personal interests

• Know the basics of the various reporting/disclosure requirements.

• Be able to ask questions and learn about the guidance process and functions of the Council
